{"id":14357,"date":"2018-07-02T11:55:43","date_gmt":"2018-07-02T11:55:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/?p=14357"},"modified":"2018-07-05T22:11:52","modified_gmt":"2018-07-05T22:11:52","slug":"u-s-households-become-mobile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/business\/innovation-business\/u-s-households-become-mobile\/","title":{"rendered":"Households have become mobile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>Wireless\u00a0phones are becoming the way to communicate at home.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Landlines lost the war against mobile phones in the U.S. during 2017.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_14358\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-14358\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-14358\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land-500x375.jpg 500w, http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land-580x435.jpg 580w, http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land-600x450.jpg 600w, http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land-700x525.jpg 700w, http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land-860x645.jpg 860w, http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/land.jpg 960w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-14358\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The decline of the landlines<\/p><\/div>\n<p>On its website, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2017\/5\/4\/15544596\/american-households-now-use-cellphones-more-than-landlines\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Verge<\/a> shared data that proved 50.8% of U.S. households now only use cell-phones,\u00a0abandoning landlines to adopt smartphones as their choice of\u00a0communication.<\/p>\n<p>The change comes after the last fifteen years, when 9 out of 10 Americans had at least one at home and landlines were becoming obsolete.<\/p>\n<p>This change grew rapidly when cellphones entered the scene in 1973; the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/music\/musicblog\/2010\/oct\/25\/rip-walkman-30-years\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">death of the Walkman in 2010<\/a> and portable gaming during the 1980\u00b4s shaped the last details on the digital transformation.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Contributing factors in\u00a0phone ownership<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Age is a contributing factor in landline phone ownership, but so are income and geographical location.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/nchs\/nhis\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The\u00a0National Health Interview Survey\u00a0(NHIS)<\/a>, U.S. adults living in poverty (66.3%) and near poverty (59.0%) were more likely than higher income adults (48.5%) to be living in households with only wireless telephones.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.gfk.com\/en-us\/insights\/press-release\/over-half-of-us-adults-live-in-cellphone-only-households\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">GFK reports<\/a> the proportion of U.S. senior citizens (ages 65+) in cellphone-only households quadrupled over the past six years (2011-2017), to 23%, while the figure for Millennials (those born between 1977 to 1994) climbed to 71% from 47%.<\/p>\n<p>After Millennials, Generation X (born between 1965 and 1976) is the age group most likely to live in cell-only households, at 55%. Baby Boomers (born between 1946 and 1964) is only four in 10 (40%).<\/p>\n<h6><strong>A future unplugged?<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>Although <a href=\"https:\/\/www.textrequest.com\/blog\/how-many-people-still-use-landline-phone\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">TextRequest reports<\/a> over 45% of American households owning a landline phone, the trend is beginning to lose force as the latest GfK MRI Survey of the American Consumer\u00ae reported that more than half (52%) of US adults live in households with cellphones but no landline telephones.<\/p>\n<h6><strong>Albertans abandon landlines in Canada<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>As for Canada, an annual survey from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca\/daily-quotidien\/140623\/dq140623a-eng.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Statistics Canada<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/calgary\/alberta-landlines-internet-access-household-spending-survey-1.4446253\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CBC<\/a> showed that Albertans are the most internet-connected people in Canada,\u00a0as just 60.5% of homes in Alberta still had a hardwired phone during 2016, which is\u00a0below the national average of 66.8% and below provinces like Quebec (72.5%), New Brunswick (85.7 %) and Newfoundland and (Labrador 86.6 %).<\/p>\n<p>91.8% of households in Alberta have online access, turning them into the most internet-connected in the country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wireless\u00a0phones are becoming the way to communicate at home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":8,"featured_media":14359,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[46],"tags":[248,246,247],"class_list":["post-14357","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-innovation-business","tag-landlines","tag-mobile","tag-mobile-phones"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14357","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/8"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=14357"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14357\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":15540,"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/14357\/revisions\/15540"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/14359"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=14357"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=14357"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=14357"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
