class=\"p1\"><!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Younger households in the US and Britain seem to finally be heeding ages-old advice from doctors and buying more fresh fruit like bananas while purchasing (and possibly consuming) less alcohol, according to several surveys.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The US\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bls.gov\/cex\/tables.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Consumer Expenditure Survey<\/a> shows that since the turn of the millennium, households headed by under-25s have increased their spending on fresh fruit by 77% and on fresh vegetables by 47% (in real terms).<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_15054\" style=\"width: 187px\" class=\"wp-caption href=\"https:\/\/www.1843magazine.com\/data-graphic\/what-the-numbers-say\/food-drink-spending\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Britain\u2019s Office for National Statistics<\/a>, the same pattern holds across the Atlantic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Berries and bananas, in particular, have become popular at breakfast, often stacked on top of a pile of yogurt or blended into a smoothie.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Millennials making these decisions reflect some of the most recent shifts in spending in America as far as the most dominant age-force in the world.<\/p>\n<h6 class=\"p1\"><strong>Apart from bananas, less booze for millennials<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">They have also cut back on booze.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Their annual spending on alcohol fell from about $560 in 2000 to roughly $270 in 2015 (or 360 fewer beers per household).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Again, British youths are doing the same.<\/span><\/p>\n<h6 class=\"p1\"><strong>A tendency on the rise<\/strong><\/h6>\n<p>In other numbers,\u00a0dining out is increasingly popular, as it accounts for 42% of Americans\u2019 food budgets, up from 26% in 1970, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.1843magazine.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">1843 Magazine,
