This is Bill Gate’s read-list of 2017.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

For several years, Bill Gates has been choosing his favorite books of the year, and 2017 was not the exception.<\/p>\n

The co-founder of Microsoft \u2014 a man worth\u00a0an estimated $90 billion<\/a>\u00a0\u2014 has stated he reads about 50 books a year as it\u00a0helps him learn new things and test his ability to understand.<\/p>\n

So, without any further ado, here are\u00a0Gates’s top readings of 2017 according to his blog<\/a>:<\/p>\n

  1. Joby Warrick’s book “Black Flags: The Rise of ISIS”<\/a> was Bill’s first choice.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Bill recommends this\u00a0thrilling dramatic narrative to anyone who wants a compelling history lesson on how ISIS managed to seize power in Iraq.<\/p>\n

    Joby Warrick is a two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize.<\/p>\n

    2. Number two for Bill is\u00a0John Green\u2019s new novel, “Turtles All the Way Down”<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    This book speaks on mental illness while a young woman tracks down fugitive billionaire\u00a0Russell Pickett.<\/p>\n

    The New York Times defines it as “A wrenching and revelatory novel.”<\/a><\/p>\n

    3. Bill Gates was intrigued on reading on\u00a0forces preventing economic mobility in the U.S.<\/p>\n

    This took him to pick up “The Color of Law”<\/a>\u00a0by Richard Rothstein.<\/p>\n

    In it, Rothstein argues how segregation in America is the byproduct of explicit government policies at the local, state, and federal levels.<\/p>\n

    The book was\u00a0designated one of ten finalists on the National Book Awards\u2019 long list for the best nonfiction book of 2017.<\/p>\n

    4. The 4th choice questions: how well do we really know our parents?<\/p>\n

    Gates’s fourth choice was a graphic novel by Thi Bui<\/a> named “The Best We Could Do”<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    The novel results in a deeply personal memoir that explores what it means to be a parent and a refugee after the\u00a0author\u2019s family fled Vietnam in 1978.<\/p>\n

    “Any parent will recognize many of the challenges her mom and dad faced raising their four kids”, Bill says.<\/p>\n

    5. “Energy and Civilization: A History<\/a>” is another one of top lectures of 2017.<\/p>\n

    Although Bill explains\u00a0you\u2019ll feel smarter and better informed about how energy innovation alters the course of civilizations.<\/p>\n
