Getting a good night&#8217;s rest is a basic rule for high-achiever athletes and masters of productivity, so why can&#8217;t we sleep at work to better our development?<\/p>\n<p>A nap can do wonders, we&#8217;ve all experienced it. So it&#8217;s kind of logical we do it in the place where we spend 9-10 hours every day.<\/p>\n<p>Mark Rosekind, PhD, once head of NASA&#8217;s &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.webmd.com\/women\/guide\/why-so-tired-10-causes-fatigue#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fatigue<\/a> Countermeasures Program&#8221; and current board member for the National Sleep Foundation, says that if people need to sleep to improve productivity, we must let them.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>NASA tests quick napping<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Rosekind led a NASA simulation investigation to test fatigue on pilots, and the results of napping were clear.<\/p>\n<p>During every test flight, the brain and eye activity of the pilots were monitored and registered, demonstrating the split-seconds of <em>microsleep<\/em> the body puts us in when one is dozing off.<\/p>\n<p>The results showed that pilots who were allowed a 40 to 45-minute nap improved their performance by 34% and their alertness by 54%, experiencing far less <em>microsleep<\/em> than the pilots not allowed to nap.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.saramednick.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sara Mednick<\/a>, a co-author of the study and associate professor of psychology at the University of California, Riverside, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/06\/23\/smarter-living\/take-naps-at-work-apologize-to-no-one.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said in The New York Times<\/a> that daytime napping can boast many of the same benefits of overnight sleep if it is of a specific quality, as it helps with alertness and perception.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t be afraid to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/06\/19\/magazine\/how-to-nap.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">nap<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Do it for around 20 minutes in an area as dimly lit as possible, where no one can disturb you.
