These trends are creating fertile grounds for digital start-ups while also <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/business\/innovation-business\/china-accelerates-innovation-engines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">transforming traditional industries<\/a> such as specialty chemicals as they supply materials for advanced industries and higher-margin consumer goods.<\/p>\n<p>Yet global companies in China should ensure that they\u2019re not <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/business\/management-leadership\/china-leading-gains-construction-productivity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">competing<\/a> for yesterday\u2019s markets.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tabla-china.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-cmsmasters-blog-masonry-thumb wp-image-17427\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tabla-china-580x400.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"580\" height=\"400\" srcset=\"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tabla-china-580x400.jpg 580w, http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/tabla-china.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 580px) 100vw, 580px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<h2><strong>Digital is fast, but it\u00b4s faster in China<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Everything speeds up in the digital economy, and nowhere is that more evident than in China. In little more than a decade, China has come from almost nowhere to become the largest e-commerce market in the world, accounting for more than 40% of global e-commerce transactions.<\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 11\">\n<div class=\"section\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p>China\u2019s mobile payments are 11 times the value of those in the United States thanks to consumers\u2019 early embrace of the technology.<\/p>\n<p>This flourishing digital culture is paying innovation dividends as China is home to one in three of the world\u2019s start-up \u201cunicorns,\u201d those with more than a $1 billion market cap. And the country now places in the top rankings of global venture-capital investment in virtual reality, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/business\/industry\/germany-head-fragile-autonomous-car-market\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">autonomous vehicles<\/a>, 3-D printing, robotics, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/business\/innovation-business\/drone-photography-a-new-perspective\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">drones<\/a>, and artificial intelligence.<\/p>\n<p>That innovation base is leading to a host of new business models based on emerging technologies that might soon revitalize other, previously lagging sectors of China\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>New approaches\u00a0<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>According to a recent report from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mckinsey.com\/featured-insights\/china\/digital-china-powering-the-economy-to-global-competitiveness\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">McKinsey Global Institute<\/a>, these new approaches include directly linking business buyers and suppliers in disintermediation plays, disaggregating incumbent value chains as digital attackers move in, and creating a raft of new digitally \u201cdematerialized\u201d products and services.<\/p>\n<p>Creative destruction on a grand scale, which would boost productivity and the international competitiveness of China\u2019s economy, might be next.<\/p>\n<p>Between 10 and 45% of revenue in China\u2019s industries could shift from old business models to new ones enabled by digital by 2030.
