{"id":18849,"date":"2018-10-31T15:11:44","date_gmt":"2018-10-31T15:11:44","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/?p=18849"},"modified":"2018-11-05T17:38:33","modified_gmt":"2018-11-05T17:38:33","slug":"contrasts-reign-in-singapore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/ceo-life\/travel\/contrasts-reign-in-singapore\/","title":{"rendered":"Contrasts prevail in Singapore"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-1 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-0 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;--awb-margin-bottom:0px;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-1\"><p>While highest expat salaries are found in Singapore,\u00a0it\u00a0ranks among bottom 10 on tackling inequality.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>While Singapore ranks 1 in worldwide cost of living and the overall best place for expatriates to live and work for a fourth straight year, it is not great at battling inequality.<\/p>\n<p>The latest Worldwide Cost of Living Survey, elaborated by\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eiu.com\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU)<\/a>, saw Singapore be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/editors-choice\/singapore-remains-worlds-expensive-city\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the world\u2019s most expensive city<\/a>, and HSBC&#8217;s latest annual Expat Explorer report found it to be the best place for expats to live, but\u00a0an Oxfam International study found the country ranked among the bottom 10 countries globally on tackling inequality.<\/p>\n<p>Oxfam ranked Singapore 149 out of the 157 countries that it studied, calling on policymakers to strengthen labour rights, enact anti-discrimination laws, and increase social spending.<\/p>\n<p>The Oxfam study calls out the country on &#8220;under-taxing&#8221; wealthy individuals and corporations. Its aim to better the way the country assesses representation and legal rights of women in the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>On its defense, the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), said that the Oxfam report &#8220;assumes that high taxation and high public expenditure\u00a0reflects commitment to combatting inequality&#8221;.<\/p>\n<\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-2 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-1 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-testimonials classic awb-speech-bubble-show fusion-testimonials-1\" style=\"--awb-textcolor:#747474;--awb-backgroundcolor:#f6f6f6;--awb-testimonial-border-style:solid;--awb-testimonial-border-color:var(--awb-color3);--awb-border-top-left-radius:0px;--awb-border-top-right-radius:0px;--awb-border-bottom-left-radius:0px;--awb-border-bottom-right-radius:0px;--testimonial-border-width-top:0px;--testimonial-border-width-right:0px;--testimonial-border-width-bottom:0px;--testimonial-border-width-left:0px;\" data-random=\"0\" data-speed=\"4000\"><div class=\"reviews\"><div class=\"review active-testimonial avatar-image\"><blockquote><div class=\"awb-quote\"><div class=\"awb-quote-content\">\n<p>&#8220;We think it is more\u00a0important to look at the outcomes achieved, like the Republic&#8217;s home ownership rate and international education rankings, as well as healthcare outcomes such as life expectancy and infant mortality.<\/p>\n<p>We do not have a minimum wage, but we have income support for low-income workers, generous schemes for worker upskilling and a\u00a0progressive wage model for certain low wage jobs.<\/p>\n<p>It also said that lower-income and median-income households here have experienced faster income growth over the last\u00a0decade than most countries at similar income levels.<\/p>\n<p>That we achieved all of this with lower taxes and lower spending than most\u00a0countries is to Singapore\u2019s credit rather than discredit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><span class=\"awb-triangle\"><\/span><\/blockquote><div class=\"author\"><span class=\"testimonial-thumbnail\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"testimonial-image\" src=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/10\/mm-300x224.jpg\" \/><\/span><span class=\"company-name\"><strong>Ministry of Social and Family Development<\/strong><span>, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.msf.gov.sg\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_self\"><span>(MSF)<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-clearfix\"><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"fusion-fullwidth fullwidth-box fusion-builder-row-3 nonhundred-percent-fullwidth non-hundred-percent-height-scrolling\" style=\"--awb-border-radius-top-left:0px;--awb-border-radius-top-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-right:0px;--awb-border-radius-bottom-left:0px;--awb-flex-wrap:wrap;\" ><div class=\"fusion-builder-row fusion-row\"><div class=\"fusion-layout-column fusion_builder_column fusion-builder-column-2 fusion_builder_column_1_1 1_1 fusion-one-full fusion-column-first fusion-column-last\" style=\"--awb-bg-size:cover;\"><div class=\"fusion-column-wrapper fusion-flex-column-wrapper-legacy\"><div class=\"fusion-text fusion-text-2\"><h3>Best\u00a0expat salaries<\/h3>\n<p>The highest expat salaries are found in Switzerland, the US and Hong Kong &#8211; according to HSBC&#8217;s latest annual Expat Explorer report.<\/p>\n<p>Moving abroad boosts the average worker&#8217;s income by US$21,000, with\u00a045% of expats saying their existing job paid more internationally, while 28% changed locations in search for a promotion.<\/p>\n<p>Switzerland, famous for both sky-high mountains and prices, boosts annual income to US$61,000. Expat salaries there again are the highest, averaging US$203,000 per year &#8211; twice the global level.<\/p>\n<p>However, as the best place to live and work, Switzerland ranked only eighth, with the high cost of raising children and difficulty making friends going against it.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden, one of the world&#8217;s most gender-equal countries, got top billing for family, while New Zealand, Spain and Taiwan led the way in the experience category.<\/p>\n<h3>Gender disparity<\/h3>\n<p>According to The Business Times,\u00a0the HSBC survey of 22,318 people uncovered that women trailed on a variety of metrics.<\/p>\n<p>While relocating boosted women&#8217;s income by roughly 27 per cent &#8211; topping the increase experienced by men &#8211; only about a quarter moved to develop their careers, compared with 47 per cent of their male counterparts.<\/p>\n<p>Just half worked full time, and the overall level of education was somewhat lower.
