{"id":19392,"date":"2019-01-07T10:45:18","date_gmt":"2019-01-07T10:45:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/?p=19392"},"modified":"2019-01-07T16:49:40","modified_gmt":"2019-01-07T16:49:40","slug":"general-motors-will-cut-up-to-14000-workers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/news\/general-motors-will-cut-up-to-14000-workers\/","title":{"rendered":"<General Motors will cut up to 14,000 workers>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>GM will cut up to 14,000 workers in North America as it faces\u00a0restructuration.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>General Motors (GM) will slash car production in North America and halt production of several low-selling brands.<\/p>\n<p>The company said\u00a0it will no longer make the plug-in hybrid Chevy Volt, ceasing production on March 1st, 2019, also, it plans to \u201cunallocate\u201d three assembly plants \u2014 in Oshawa, Ontario; Detroit, Michigan; and Warren, Ohio \u2014 putting the future of those plants in doubt.<\/p>\n<p>This move puts at risk an estimated 14,000 jobs between factory workers and white-collar employees.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/media.gm.com\/media\/us\/en\/gm\/news.detail.html\/content\/Pages\/news\/us\/en\/2018\/nov\/1126-gm.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Through a press release<\/a>, GM mentioned these actions are expected to increase annual adjusted automotive free cash flow by $6 billion by year-end 2020 on a run-rate basis.<\/p>\n<p>GM Chairman and CEO Mary Barra continued explaining:\u00a0\u201cThe actions we are taking today continue our transformation to be highly agile, resilient and profitable, while giving us the flexibility to invest in the future (&#8230;) We recognize the need to stay in front of changing market conditions and customer preferences to position our company for long-term success.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Trade war involved?<\/h2>\n<p>GM delivered 3,949 Bolt <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/business\/innovation-business\/paving-the-way-for-a-profitable-mass-market-for-evs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">EVs<\/a> during the last three months of 2018 versus 6,710 units during the same period in 2017. That\u2019s a 41.1 percent decrease in sales in the US, which is the biggest market for GM\u2019s flagship all-electric vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Verge<\/a>, it\u2019s unclear what effect, if any, President Trump\u2019s trade war with China had on GM\u2019s decision.
