It’s ok, you can admit it, you’re not alone.<\/p>\n

79%\u00a0of American\u00a0alcohol consumers\u00a0said they have made at least one drunk purchase, and all-together it collects tons of money.<\/p>\n

The Hustle recently ran a survey<\/a> of more than 2,000 alcohol-consuming American adults, and found that drunk shopping is an estimated\u00a0$45 billion per year industry, as\u00a0the average drunk shopping expenditure per year worked out at $444, making clothing and shoes\u00a0the most common drunk purchase, and\u00a0Amazon\u00a0the drunk shopping platform of choice, followed by ebay, Etsy, Target and Wal-Mart.<\/p>\n

The information presented The Hustle is based on a survey of 2,174 alcohol-consuming readers between March 11-18, 2019. The average respondent is 36 years old, has an income of $92k (more than double the\u00a0national average<\/a>), and skews a bit more male (53%) than female (47%).<\/p>\n

Breaking it down<\/h2>\n

According to the methodology, the survey revealed that women (80%) are slightly more likely than men (78%) to drunk shop. This makes sense as women generally\u00a0shop more\u00a0than men \u2014 especially online<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Drunk shoppers also tend to be younger, while millennials outrank baby boomers by 13%, which might be attributed to the rise of e-commerce.<\/p>\n

When it comes to professions, writers, editors, and artists are actually far less likely to drunk shop while\u00a0transportation and oil & energy sectors (known for long, often solitary work hours) boast near-universal drunk shopping habits.<\/p>\n

As for the drinks, beer, wine, and liquor seem to bear equal responsibility for terrible decision-making.<\/p>\n

Who and how much?<\/h2>\n

Trends in drunk spending even vary geographically.<\/p>\n

Kentuckians top the charts with a $742 annual spend, the highest average. In fact, the entire South \u2014 a region known for its fine bourbon \u2014 is strongly drunk spending.<\/p>\n
