{"id":21510,"date":"2019-06-05T09:00:15","date_gmt":"2019-06-05T09:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/?p=21510"},"modified":"2019-07-30T17:20:20","modified_gmt":"2019-07-30T17:20:20","slug":"taking-on-the-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/business\/industry\/taking-on-the-industry\/","title":{"rendered":"Taking on the industry"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Fiat Chrysler has proposed a combined entity that would become the world\u2019s third-largest carmaker.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.marketwatch.com\/press-release\/fca-submits-proposal-for-a-transformative-merger-with-groupe-renault-to-create-preeminent-global-automotive-group-2019-05-27\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">has proposed a deal<\/a> that would reshape the global automotive industry.<\/p>\n<p>This Monday,\u00a0Fiat Chrysler pitched a finely balanced merger of equals to Renault aiming tackle the costs of far-reaching technological and regulatory changes, officially confirmed the\u00a0reports\u00a0heard over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>This\u00a050\/50 merger with France\u2019s Groupe Renault,\u00a0a move that would create the world\u2019s third-largest automaker by production, will se\u00a0both Fiat and Renault each own 50% of the business, combining sales of 8.7m vehicles a year \u2014 larger than General Motors.<\/p>\n<p>An announcement on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fcagroup.com\/en-US\/media_center\/fca_press_release\/FiatDocuments\/2019\/may\/FCA_SUBMITS_PROPOSAL_FOR_A_TRANSFORMATIVE_MERGER_WITH_GROUPE_RENAULT.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">FCA\u2019s website<\/a>\u00a0touted the merger as a chance to save \u20ac5 billion a year in synergies, merge platforms and powertrains and dump capital into EVs and other new technologies. It also said no plant closures would be needed, however, this combined business would sell approximately 8.7 million vehicles annually and most likely turn into world leader in EV technologies, premium brands, SUVs, pickup trucks and light commercial vehicles, establishing a broader and more balanced global presence than either company on a standalone basis. The proposal also wants to inject fresh life into Renault\u2019s alliance with Japan\u2019s Nissan.<\/p>\n<p>[ihc-hide-content ihc_mb_type=&#8221;show&#8221; ihc_mb_who=&#8221;3,4,5,6&#8243; ihc_mb_template=&#8221;3&#8243; ]<\/p>\n<p>According to Reuters, shares in both companies jumped more than 10% as investors welcomed the prospect of an enlarged business capable of producing more than 8.7 million vehicles a year and aiming for 5 billion euros ($5.6 billion) in annual savings.<\/p>\n<p>Experts believe this\u00a0proposed tie-up\u00a0would have nearly \u20ac170bn in annual revenue on operating profit of more than \u20ac10bn, and net profit exceeding \u20ac8bn, said the FCA, expanding brand presence in North America, Europe and Latin America.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/846bc2f0-7fbf-11e9-9935-ad75bb96c849\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Financial Times reports<\/a> that the top leadership positions were not disclosed in Monday\u2019s proposal. However, John Elkann, who steers Exor, the Agnelli family investment vehicle, is expected to become chairman of the merged group, while Renault chair Jean-Dominique Senard would be named chief executive, multiple people close to the talks said. Englishman Mike Manley, chief executive of FCA, is expected to be named chief operating officer. A board of 11 representatives would include four representatives each from FCA and Renault and one nominee from Nissan.<\/p>\n<h2>The industry&#8217;s biggest players<\/h2>\n<div class=\"row\">Fiat Chrysler, the group behind popular brands such as Jeep, Dodge, Ram and Alfa Romeo, was the seventh largest automobile group in the world last year, selling 4.8 million vehicles in total.
