It&#8217;s also providing data for every NYC listing rented between January 1st, 2018 and February 18th, 2019 that might have violated the city&#8217;s\u00a0short-term rental laws.\u00a0Airbnb&#8217;s info could help NYC determine the scale of this practice and prosecute offenders.<\/p>\n<p>Once receiving the data, the Mayor\u2019s Office of Special Enforcement (OSE) can then request de-anonymized data for specific listings that are likely to be illegal. In that event, the OSE would receive identifying data like addresses, total days booked, payout information, emails, and phone numbers.<\/p>\n<p>This doesn&#8217;t represent a definitive end to the quarrel between Airbnb and NYC, but it could have a significant influence on how the city treats home rental services.<\/p>\n<p>Cities like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.newsweek.com\/paris-airbnb-hosts-hit-over-15m-fines-1096236\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paris<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/qz.com\/quartzy\/1330701\/barcelona-wants-tourists-to-check-if-their-airbnb-style-rentals-are-legal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Barcelona<\/a>, and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/andrewbender\/2015\/06\/15\/new-regulations-to-wipe-out-80-of-airbnb-rentals-in-californias-santa-monica\/#697c9a9b169a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Santa Monica<\/a>\u00a0have tough restrictions on Airbnb rentals.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sfchronicle.com\/airbnb-impact-san-francisco-2015\/#1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">San Francisco<\/a>\u00a0has adopted a similar policy to New York, while\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cntraveler.com\/story\/why-airbnb-cant-crack-las-vegas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Las Vegas<\/a>\u00a0has slapped Airbnb with some strict regulations to protect its hotel industry. In Japan, nearly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cntraveler.com\/story\/nearly-80-percent-of-japans-airbnbs-were-just-removed\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">80 percent of Airbnbs<\/a>\u00a0were axed last summer in response to new regulations.
