{"id":22668,"date":"2019-09-19T10:55:01","date_gmt":"2019-09-19T10:55:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/?p=22668"},"modified":"2019-09-19T15:58:14","modified_gmt":"2019-09-19T15:58:14","slug":"trudeaus-bad-numbers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/business\/management-leadership\/trudeaus-bad-numbers\/","title":{"rendered":"Trudeau\u2019s (bad) numbers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">After swiping into office on November 2015 promising &#8220;sunny ways&#8221;, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau now faces a much more different electorate.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Canadian voices have turned to complain about Trudeau\u2019s numbers, asking for\u00a0explanations on how things went from his 2015 election promise to balance the federal budget this year, to his own finance department\u2019s latest projection: it won\u2019t be balanced until 2040.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Back in 2015, Trudeau was adamant that under his economic stewardship, Canada would have a balanced budget this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">Looking right into the camera, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/taxpayerdotcom\/status\/1108087465125072908\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">he said during the\u00a0<i>Globe and Mail\u00a0<\/i>televised leaders\u2019 debate on the economy in 2015<\/a>: \u201cI am looking straight at Canadians, and being honest the way I always have. We\u2019ve said we are committed to balanced budgets, and we are. We will balance that budget in 2019.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">After the election, in a 2015 year-end interview with\u00a0<i>The Canadian Press<\/i>, Trudeau repeated his promise to balance the budget by 2019, saying it was cast in stone.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">\u201cI think one of the things that Canadians expect is a level of fiscal responsibility that we\u2019ve been able to demonstrate in the past, and we\u2019re certainly going to demonstrate it in the future,\u201d Trudeau said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">In fact, Trudeau not only promised that his government would have a balanced budget by\u00a02019, but a $1 billion surplus. They also say\u00a0that if the economy goes well, Canada could achieve a balanced budget earlier than forecast, while admitting that if the economy doesn\u2019t go well, it could take even longer.<\/p>\n<p>Trudeau\u2019s 2015 promise of having a balanced budget by this year has long\u00a0gone from being a promise to a political liability, even to this year. <a href=\"https:\/\/torontosun.com\/opinion\/columnists\/goldstein-trudeau-looked-us-in-the-eye-and-scammed-us\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to The Toronto Sun<\/a>,\u00a0Trudeau\u2019s 2019-20 budget didn\u2019t just fail to balance the federal budget during a time of relative economic strength \u2014 and heaven help us when we face the next recession, as we inevitably will.
