Safra and I will cover Mark&#8217;s responsibilities during his absence with support from the rest of our strong management team.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2019-09-11\/oracle-ceo-mark-hurd-to-take-leave-of-absence-for-health-reasons\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">According to Bloomberg<\/a>, Oracle shares declined 4% in extended trading following the announcement of Hurd\u2019s leave of absence, and after the company reported fiscal first-quarter sales that fell short of analysts\u2019 projections. The stock had gained 1.5% to $56.29 at the close in New York. Oracle had been scheduled to report earnings on Thursday.\u00a0In an email to employees included in the statement, Hurd said that he had confidence Catz, Ellison and the rest of the management team would do a \u201cterrific job executing\u201d the company\u2019s plans during his leave.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.prnewswire.com\/news-releases\/oracle-chief-executive-officer-mark-hurd-to-take-a-leave-of-absence-for-health-related-reasons-300916440.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">PR Newswire shared<\/a> the message that was communicated to Oracle employees today:<\/p>\n<p id=\"indentid\" class=\"prnml40\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>To all my friends and colleagues at Oracle,<\/em><\/p>\n<p id=\"indentid\" class=\"prnml40\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Though we all worked hard together to close the first quarter, I&#8217;ve decided that I need to spend time focused on my health.\u00a0 At my request, the Board of Directors has granted me a medical leave of absence.
