Users will still be able to watch in high definition if they want, but will have to choose to do so, this during a whole month.<\/p>\n<p>This measure, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-03-24\/youtube-to-limit-video-quality-around-the-world-for-a-month\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg reports<\/a>, had already been instituted by Youtube in Europe, where regulators have asked major streaming services, including\u00a0Netflix Inc.\u00a0and Amazon Prime Video, to\u00a0<a title=\"Amazon, Netflix, YouTube Cut Stream Quality to Ease Networks (2)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2020-03-20\/amazon-netflix-cut-europe-s-stream-quality-to-ease-networks\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reduce their bandwidth usage<\/a>, now,\u00a0YouTube is extending this policy worldwide.\u00a0YouTube doesn\u2019t believe the world will run out of internet bandwidth any time soon, but is taking a preemptive measure given growing concerns at the government level, but as more people work and learn from home, concerns about stress being placed on broadband networks continue to grow.\u00a0More companies are likely to take similar actions around the world the longer people remain self-quarantined at home, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theverge.com\/2020\/3\/24\/21192384\/youtube-video-quality-reduced-hd-broadband-europe-streaming\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Verge reports<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Streaming video requires more internet bandwidth than music, messaging or maps because of the size of the files transmitted. Google was the largest consumer of traffic volume on the internet last year, just ahead of Netflix, according to\u00a0<a title=\"Click to view webpage.\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sandvine.com\/blog\/netflix-vs.-google-vs.-amazon-vs.-facebook-vs.-microsoft-vs.-apple-traffic-share-of-internet-brands-global-internet-phenomena-spotlight\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">a study by Sandvine<\/a>, a network analysis firm.
