{"id":27992,"date":"2020-10-29T18:37:39","date_gmt":"2020-10-29T18:37:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.ceo-na.com\/?p=27992"},"modified":"2020-10-29T18:40:58","modified_gmt":"2020-10-29T18:40:58","slug":"tech-ceos-face-the-senate","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/servidor-mxigen1.com\/ceona-antiguo\/news\/tech-ceos-face-the-senate\/","title":{"rendered":"<Tech CEOs face the Senate>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CEOs from Twitter, Facebook and Alphabet\u00a0faced off\u00a0against a Senate panel.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The CEOs of Twitter, Facebook and Google rebuffed accusations of anti-conservative bias at a Senate hearing Wednesday and promised to aggressively defend their platforms from being used to sow chaos in next week\u2019s election.<\/p>\n<p>In the online session, the executives said they are taking several steps, including partnerships with news organizations, to distribute accurate information about voting. \u201cWe want to give people using the service as much information as possible,\u201d said Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, while Texas Senator Ted Cruz answered: \u201cTwitter\u2019s conduct has by far been the most egregious,\u201d Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, told Dorsey. Cruz cited Twitter\u2019s limitations on the newspaper story as part of \u201ca pattern of censorship and silencing Americans with whom Twitter disagrees.\u201d\u00a0Dorsey responded to Cruz that he does not believe that Twitter can influence elections because it\u2019s only one source of information.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-61 Component-p-0-2-52\">There\u2019s no evidence that the social media giants are biased against conservative news, posts or other material, or that they favor one side of political debate over another, researchers have found, <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/Google-Twitter-Facebook-Zuckerberg-1246ed1fe238971bb2509e0a8f76b0a6\">AP News wrote<\/a>, but Republicans aren\u2019t alone in raising concerns about the companies\u2019 policies, as\u00a0Democrats focused their criticism mainly on hate speech, misinformation and other content that can incite violence, keep people from voting or spread falsehoods about the coronavirus.<\/p>\n<p>Starting Tuesday, Facebook isn\u2019t accepting any new political advertising. Previously booked political ads will be able to run until the polls close Nov. 3, when all political advertising will temporarily be banned. Google, which owns YouTube, also is halting political ads after the polls close. Twitter banned all political ads last year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><strong>Morning Brew picked up the best soundbites from the feisty affair:<\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><strong>&#8220;Section 230 is the Internet\u2019s most important law for free speech and safety.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Jack Dorsey claimed that\u00a0<a class=\"x_link\" href=\"https:\/\/link.morningbrew.com\/click\/21927068.1093608\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuZm94bmV3cy5jb20vcG9saXRpY3MvZG9qLWNpdGluZy1odW50ZXItYmlkZW4tc3RvcnktanVzdGljZS10aG9tYXMtc3VwcG9ydHMtY2hhbmdlcy10by1zZWN0aW9uLTIzMC1pbi1sZXR0ZXItdG8tY29uZ3Jlc3M_dXRtX3NvdXJjZT1tb3JuaW5nX2JyZXc\/5dd558ab52ba1e2e5e324481Bd77a135e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">weakening<\/a>\u00a0the protections offered by the law would change the fabric of the digital world.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cCongress should update the law to make sure it\u2019s working as intended.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>Zuckerberg said he supports change because more clarity around content moderation benefits everybody, including the platforms.<\/p>\n<p><strong>&#8220;Mr. Dorsey, who the hell elected you and put you in charge of what the media are allowed to report\u2026?<\/strong>\u201d Republican Senator Ted Cruz broke out the H-E-double-hockey-sticks,\u00a0<a class=\"x_link\" href=\"https:\/\/link.morningbrew.com\/click\/21927068.1093608\/aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY25ldC5jb20vbmV3cy9mYWNlYm9vay10d2l0dGVyLWdvb2dsZS1jZW9zLXRvLWRlZmVuZC1zZWN0aW9uLTIzMC1iZWZvcmUtc2VuYXRlLXBhbmVsLz91dG1fc291cmNlPW1vcm5pbmdfYnJldw\/5dd558ab52ba1e2e5e324481B0194107a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\">reprimanding Twitter<\/a>\u00a0for disabling the sharing of a NY Post article about Hunter Biden.<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u201cThe issue is not that these companies&#8230;are taking too many posts down.
