Zoom was the\u00a0most downloaded\u00a0free app of the year, TikTok and Disney+ followed closely behind.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

When speaking of Apple\u2019s most-downloaded apps and games of the year<\/a>, unsurprisingly,\u00a0Zoom Cloud Meetings was the most downloaded free app in the U.S., with\u00a0shares growing by more than 580% this year.\u00a0The company reported Monday<\/a>\u00a0that revenue jumped more than 350% for a second consecutive quarter.\u00a0While the videoconferencing app didn\u2019t even make the top 20 last year, the societal shift to working and schooling from home amid the COVID-19 pandemic has made Zoom an essential tool for many people connecting with colleagues and clients, teachers and students, as well as friends and family.<\/p>\n

TikTok took the second spot, Disney\u2019s streaming service Disney+ landed at No. 3, while YouTube and\u00a0Instagram rounded out the top five free apps.<\/p>\n

Paid apps and gaming<\/h1>\n

The top paid app was the photo-retouching tool TouchRetouch, followed by the Procreate Pocket drawing app and the Dark Sky weather app,\u00a0which Apple acquired earlier this year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On the gaming side, the two-year-old online multiplayer game \u201cAmong Us\u201d was a pandemic sleeper hit, becoming Apple\u2019s most-downloaded free game this year \u2014 and\u00a0even reeling in Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in October<\/a>, when she drew more than 400,000 Twitch viewers while playing it with potential voters. It was followed by \u201cCall of Duty: Mobile\u201d and \u201cRoblox\u201d in second and third place, respectively.<\/p>\n
